Pogba set for test as Matic now facing more time out for United

Paul Pogba will undergo a test to determine how his recovery from injury is progressing on Monday, but Nemanja Matic is now facing more time on the sidelines. The Frenchman is back in Manchester after rehabilitating his injury in Dubai and, speaking after Sunday’s game, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said there could be news on Pogba’s status in the coming days. “We’re going to have a test on Pogba tomorrow and see where he’s at and how long it’ll be until he’s back,” said Solskjaer, who was able to re-introduce Anthony Martial to his matchday squad after almost two months out.
The £36million striker, who famously scored on his debut against Liverpool in 2015, was injured in United’s 2-1 home reverse to Crystal Palace on August 24 but came off the bench in the closing stages on Sunday.
Solskjaer suggested Martial would be able to play more minutes in the coming weeks as United now face a run of four successive away matches, starting with a Europa League trip to Serbia to play Partizan Belgrade on Thursday.
David de Gea was passed fit to play against Liverpool, despite apparently being ruled out of the fixture on his return from international duty a few days before, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka was also welcomed back after illness.
However, it wasn’t all good news for Solskjaer because Axel Tuanzebe dropped out of his original line-up after pulling up with a hip problem during the pre-match warm-up. “I don’t know how Axel is but hopefully Jesse [Lingard] is back soon,” said Solskjaer, who added that Luke Shaw was also “not too long” from being available for selection again.
But Matic is facing a spell out, having “played on with a little problem” and will miss the trip to his home country Serbia this week – with Solskjaer unable to say how long he would be sidelined.
