Poland Captain Robert Lewandowski Suffers Injury Scare Ahead Of Euro 2024

Robert Lewandowski departed the pitch in the 33rd minute of Poland’s final friendly before Euro 2024, sparking questions about the captain’s participation in the competition.

Poland defeated Turkey 2-1 in Warsaw on Monday, with Karol Swiderski scoring the first goal and Nicola Zalewski scoring in the 90th minute after Baris Alper Yilmaz equalized for the visitors.

Barcelona striker Lewandowski, 35, exited the field with an apparent thigh ailment while the hosts were leading 1-0, while Swiderski injured his ankle while celebrating his 12th-minute goal.

Lewandowski is the national team captain, however Poland manager Michal Probierz later stated that ‘Robert has a small injury but there should be no problem’. Reported By Yahoo Sports.

There is also little concern about 27-year-old Swiderski, with Probierz revealing: ‘Karol has sprained his ankle, and we won’t know what the issue is until after the examinations. There will be no changes done.

Aston Villa defensive star Matty Cash was also dropped from the Poland team following an injury that forced him to miss the back part of the club’s successful season.

Lewandowski has 82 goals in 148 appearances for his national team, and he scored 26 goals in all competitions this season with Barcelona.

Swiderski, who spent last season on loan at Hellas Verona from Charlotte FC, has 31 Polish caps and 11 goals to his record.

Poland unexpectedly failed to qualify for Euro 2024 at the conclusion of last year, after winning three games, drawing two, and losing two.
