Graham Potter has said his Brighton side must maintain their impressive recent form at the Amex Stadium if they are to “do anything in the season”. The Seagulls started the Premier League season in style after securing a 3-0 win at current bottom club Watford.
However, they made their home fans wait until October 5 to see their first win when defeating Tottenham by the same scoreline at the Amex.
Brighton have now won three consecutive matches in the league after they followed the Spurs rout with a last-gasp 3-2 win against Everton on October 26 before they defeated Norwich City 2-0 on home soil at the weekend.
Leandro Trossard broke the deadlock midway through the second half when he poked the ball past Tim Krul to give his side the lead.
The Seagulls wrapped up the win in the 84th minute when Shane Duffy slid in to tap a Trossard free-kick into the net.
When asked to discuss the team’s upturn in fortunes at home, Potter said: “I think if you’re going to do anything in the season, you have to be good at home, and it’s nice for our supporters to see the team win. “I think before those wins it was a long time before they had that feeling, and that can bring a bit of anxiousness and negativity, so it’s good to win home games because that can set you up away to go and try and take points.”
Despite the feel-good factor around Brighton, Potter was quick to try and keep his players grounded given that their next match is a tricky trip to Manchester United next Sunday.
Brendan Rodgers’ in-form Leicester City are the next visitors to the Amex Stadium on November 23 and Potter knows they will have to be at their very best to pick up results from both games.
However, the recent run of three wins in four has lifted Brighton up to eighth in the Premier League on 15 points – seven clear of the relegation places.
