Viktor Gyokeres, who has been in excellent form for Sporting CP thus far this season, is one of the players that sporting director Deco is considering.
Whether Barcelona pursues Gyokeres next summer is still up in the air, but if not, they will probably lose out on signing him.
The Swedish striker, who has scored 24 goals this season for his team, is also being pursued by Manchester United and Manchester City.
Sporting is reportedly prepared to settle for less than the €100 million the club has been requesting.
Next summer, a transaction is probably going to cost €70 million, which Barcelona will most likely not be able to afford unless they can eventually get back to La Liga’s 1:1 rule, reports Football Espana.
Gyökeres joined Brighton & Hove Albion three years after making his professional debut with Swedish team Brommapojkarna in 2015, where he made more than fifty appearances.
Gyökeres joined Coventry City permanently in 2021 after being on loan to a number of teams, including Swansea City, St. Pauli, and others.
In 2023, Sporting CP paid a club record €20 million to acquire him. He helped them win the league title in his rookie season.
Along with winning Player of the Year, he was the Primeira Liga’s top scorer with 29 goals in 33 games, earning him the Bola de Prata.
