Withe scored several goals during his career, but he is most remembered for the goal that helped his team defeat Bayern Munich in the 1982 European Cup final.

Watkins will play against the same opponents in Villa’s first home game at the top continental level since that unforgettable evening in Rotterdam. Unai Emery’s turnaround has raised Watkins’ ambitions for his Villa career.

Withe, a five-year Villa player, adds that Watkins’s accomplishments on both the club and international levels have gone beyond his expectations.

“This time last year, I was able to visit the training field and observe them in action.

I believe that he is currently squandering many opportunities, having likely missed a number that you would have thought he would score. He has advanced significantly, the 73-year-old said to talkSPORT in Birmingham Live

It was actually quite a few years ago, and I recall thinking, “Oh, well, you know, £60m is a lot of money,” when Arsenal submitted an offer for him.

However, it is wonderful that he chose not to leave, and as you have mentioned, he has now emerged and is scoring goals for both Aston Villa and the national side.
