Norwich striker Dieumerci Mbokani has been caught up in the Brussels terror attacks.

The 30-year-old, who joined Alex Neil’s side on loan from Dynamo Kiev last summer, was at Zaventem Airport in Brussels when the attacks took place on Tuesday morning.

Two blasts killed several people and left more injured, but the player is said to be ‘unharmed but shaken’ by the events at the airport.

It is believed DR Congo international Mbokani was on his way to Kinshasa to join up with his international team-mates but has returned to his family. Norwich have remained in constant dialogue with him.

It is unknown whether the forward will be involved in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Angola on Saturday and next Tuesday.

The club said in a statement: ‘Norwich City Football Club can confirm Dieumerci Mbokani was at Zaventem Airport in Brussels at the time of this morning’s terror attacks.

‘The on-loan Dynamo Kiev striker was unharmed but shaken by the tragic events at the airport, in which a number of people were killed or injured.

‘The club is in constant dialogue with Dieumerci, who has now returned home to be with his family.

‘The thoughts of everyone at Norwich City are with the victims of the atrocities in Belgium today and their relatives.

‘There will be no further statements from the club or Dieumerci Mbokani at this time.’

The Belgium national team cancelled their training session on Tuesday following the attacks in Brussels which left at least 34 dead.

Belgium were due to train ahead of their international friendly against Portugal, which is scheduled to be played at the King Baudouin Stadium in the capital next week.

It is unclear whether that game will go ahead, however, following the suspected terrorist bombings.

On Twitter, the Belgium team’s official account wrote: ‘Our thoughts are with the victims. Football is not important today. Training cancelled.’

Blasts hit the American Airlines check-in desk at Brussels Airport at 8am (7am GMT) on Tuesday and around 90 minutes later, an explosion went off at a Metro station in the city centre.
