Premier League Warn Clubs Over ‘Fraudulent’ Swap Deals

The Premier League have sent message to all 20 clubs warning them of punishment over potential fraudulent swap deals between each other in the hope of circumventing the Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Everton, Chelsea, and Aston Villa have all been accused of doing business with one another in an effort to help one other avoid penalties for violating the PSR. All three teams are understood to be in need of funds before the June 30 accounting deadline.

Chelsea made headlines when they decided to sign 18-year-old midfielder Omari Kellyman for £19 million, even though the boy had only played 148 minutes of senior football. Chelsea also agreed to transfer Ian Maatsen to Villa for £37.5 million.

Tim Iroegbunam, a midfielder for Villa, was also sold to Everton for £9 million, and Lewis Dobbin moved in the other direction for £10 million.

According to The Telegraph as cited by 90min, Premier League officials have gotten in touch with all 20 clubs. Informing them that all transfers will be closely examined and that any clubs discovered to be operating solely to evade financial fines may be subject to sanctions.

To ascertain if all parties acted in good faith, the Premier League have the right to request specifics of any transfer talks that take place between two clubs.

They have the authority to enforce fair market value regulations, which are meant to prevent teams from overvaluing players in order to boost their revenue.

The same scrutiny was applied to Manchester City’s signing of winger Savio from City Football Group-owned Troyes.

In the event that it is determined that the two clubs were dishonest, transfer funds may be returned.
