Arsene Wenger has suggested Paris St Germain have turned their attention to Neymar having given up on signing Alexis Sanchez.
The French outfit have been consistently linked with a move for Arsenal’s Chilean contract rebel.
Sanchez’s current deal expires in 12 months and with the 29-year-old seemingly reluctant to agree new terms, it’s thought Arsenal could be tempted to sell while they can still command a fee.
However Wenger has insisted he expects Sanchez to at least see out his contract at Arsenal.
Before the Gunners left China on Saturday night, Wenger spoke to reporters about the rumours involving Sanchez – and also those linking PSG with Barcelona striker Neymar.
‘I read L’Equipe in the last three or four days,’ said Wenger. ‘It [the rumours] has moved from Sanchez to Neymar. Today they speak about Neymar, three days ago they speak about Alexis. They need as well, like you [reporters], subjects.’
When it was suggested that surely PSG could not sign both the forwards, Wenger commented: ‘No. They cannot get Sanchez so they go for Neymar.’
PSG have been linked with an incredible move to pay Neymar’s £195million release clause to steal him away from Barcelona.
Wenger went on to again confirm his stance that he expects Sanchez to stay.
‘My mind has been made up for a while now,’ he said in response to a question asking if he expected Sanchez to still be at the Emirates beyond the transfer window.
Sanchez was quoted in his native Chile suggesting he wants to join a club playing in the Champions League. As well as PSG, Manchester City would also fill that requirement and is a club he’s been linked with.
However when Wenger was asked if Sanchez has specifically asked to leave, the Frenchman said: ‘No.’
