PSG players ‘abused’ and have cars vandalised on arrival in Paris

Paris Saint-Germain players were subject to verbal abuse and had ‘several’ cars damaged on arrival in Paris on Wednesday night.

The capital club crashed out of the Champions League at the Round of 16 stage after a dramatic comeback from Barcelona saw the two legs finish 6-5 on aggregate to the Spanish side.

But their week was to get even worse after arriving back home in France when fans hurled verbal abuse at Bourget Airport despite enhanced security arranged to protect players.

PSG strongly condemned the actions and behaviour of the individuals in question in a statement.

The club also confirmed that an ‘extremely hostile and aggressive’ atmosphere resulted in attacks on players’ vehicles at the airport.

Police then escorted the squad, their families and PSG staff away to safety, but one individual, the club explained, was hit by a car that was trying to flee the scene.

‘One individual was struck by a car trying to escape the crowd that was physically threatening the players and their families,’ a statement read.

An investigation by French authorities will follow the incident to establish a full record of events before any further action can be taken.
