Football’s world record transfer fee could be smashed this summer with Paris Saint-Germain willing to pay an astonishing 222 million euros to bring Neymar to the Parc des Princes, should they get the player’s word that he is willing to move.
In addition to the remarkable fee, the Parisians would offer Neymar himself 30m euros a year plus bonuses, which would make him one of the world’s highest paid footballers.
An offer will only be made if the French side get the go ahead from the player himself and he is willing to leave Catalonia, something that prevented a potential deal from taking place last summer.
Sport reported on Monday that the Brazilian forward felt uncomfortable in his role at the Catalan club and that he wanted to be the star of the side, but with Lionel Messi still very much the king of the Camp Nou, this is impossible at Barcelona.
Manchester City and Manchester United are two other clubs interested in his services, but there has been no offer from either club, who are likely being put off by his astronomical release clause.
It is worth remembering that last summer the player and his father had spoken with PSG, as he acknowledged publicly himself, but he opted to stay put in Spain.
“There were many talks, not just one,” Neymar said in September.
“I decided to stay because I feel at home and I’m happy with my life in Barcelona.”
One year on, maybe he is ready for a change and a new life in Paris.
