PSG refuse to comment on reports they have approached Mourinho

Paris Saint-Germain have refused to comment on reports suggesting they have approached Jose Mourinho to be their next manager.

Despite leading Les Parisiens to the Ligue 1 title current boss Laurent Blanc is facing the prospect of the sack following the Champions League exit at the hands of Manchester City last week.

With an impending vacancy reports emerged that club chairman Nasser al- Khelaifi has made a move to secure Mourinho, despite strong interest from Manchester United.

But when contacted by Reuters the club refused to comment.

After a rollercoaster year Louis van Gaal remains in charge at Old Trafford, but it is understood Mourinho has told close friends that he will take over from the Dutchman this summer.

Despite securing progress in the FA Cup the Red Devils hierarchy are united in their belief that a change is now required.

With Pep Guardiola taking over at Manchester City this summer and old rivals such as Chelsea and Liverpool expected to come back strongly after difficult seasons, United cannot risk another season of Van Gaal-led underachievement.

Against that backdrop, they are already preparing for life after the Dutchman — with Mourinho the man entrusted with the task of taking them back to the very top, both domestically and in Europe.

Serial winner Mourinho, who has been out of work since being sacked by champions Chelsea in December, is ready to succeed Van Gaal and fulfil his long-held ambition of managing United.

Opposition to the Special One’s appointment, from Ferguson and fellow club legend Sir Bobby Charlton, is understood to have eased with senior figures now accepting the need for change if United are to progress.
