Paris Saint-Germain will reportedly offer Lionel Messi a formal contract extension after the World Cup.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner had a rough first season in Paris after being forced to leave Barcelona due to financial troubles in 2021.
However, Messi has benefited from Christophe Galtier’s tutelage this season, creating a fearsome front three alongside Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, his ex-teammate from the Blaugrana.
Will Messi Leave PSG?
The 35-year-old is set to become a free agent at the conclusion of the season, and he has been heavily linked with a possible return to Barcelona in recent weeks.
Les Parisiens do have the option to extend Messi’s contract by another year, but the club is widely expected to negotiate a new deal with the Argentina international.
According to Goal, PSG have told Messi that he would be offered a new two-year contract once Argentina’s World Cup campaign concludes.
The report also casts doubt on Messi’s return to Barcelona, claiming that he is ‘very unlikely’ to return to Camp Nou as a player.
The South American is not likely to make a final decision on his future until after the World Cup, but PSG are confident about extending his stay.

Messi helped PSG win the Ligue 1 title with four games to spare last season, and he now has 23 goals and 29 assists in 53 outings for the capital powerhouse.
The former Barcelona attacker only scored six goals in the 2021-22 Ligue 1 season, but he has already surpassed that tally during a solid start to the current season.
Messi has 12 goals and 14 assists from 19 games for PSG this season, including seven goals and ten assists from the current league season.
The veteran attacker has been at the heart of Argentina’s World Cup campaign, starting every minute of his team’s three Group C games and producing two goals and an assist.
