PSV star Cody Gakpo has claimed that a move to Manchester United is a “serious” option for him, even if the club complete a lucrative deal for Ajax winger Antony.
The PSV winger has been linked with United all through the summer, but no deal has been reached.
Ten Hag is said to be a great fan of Gakpo, who has an outstanding 12 assists and three goals in four games this season.
Despite his young age, the Dutch international has already scored 43 goals in 146 games for PSV, winning the Eredivisie.
Gakpo told ESPN after his team’s win over Excelsior: ‘There are also other options, United are a serious option.’
‘I can hear it all. I try to shut myself off from it, but it’s difficult.’
United are also thought to be close to a deal for another Eredivisie star, Ajax attacker Antony, for roughly £84 million.
On Antony’s impending move to Manchester United, he added: “Nice for him. But for me and my future, I think that has no influence. It’s like a puzzle so in the next few days I will see which puzzle fits best — for me, it’d be certainly not bad to stay at PSV. We’ll see.”
Manchester United’s progress in the transfer market has been part of an impressive week overall.
Their 4-0 defeat to Brentford two weeks ago dropped them to the bottom of the Premier League, but they have since risen to eighth after victories against Liverpool and Southampton.
While there is still a long way to go, United appear to be on the rise, and if ten Hag can bring in more of the players he knows best from the Eredivisie, this may be a good season for the Red Devils.

What’s Next for Gakpo?
Gakpo is set to return to action for PSV against Volendam on August 31, and it remains to be seen whether United manager Erik ten Hag will try to sign him before the transfer deadline a day later.
