Liverpool legend and SkySports pundit, Jamie Carragher believes his former club will not be contending for the Premier League title this season, as he names two positions the Reds must look for strengthening.
The Reds lost the opportunity to catch up with table toppers Manchester City as they were restricted to a 1-1 draw against Luton Town on Sunday.
At Kenilworth Road, Jurgen Klopp’s team was far from optimal, only Luis Diaz’s goal in stoppage time saved them from humiliating defeat.
According to Liverpool World, Carragher still thinks Liverpool must acquire a new defensive midfield player. Even though Alex Mac Allister has filled the position thus far this season.
This is despite the fact that the team finished fifth in the previous campaign and made major changes during the summer transfer window.
The legendary Kop player also believes that before the Reds can seriously challenge City for the premier league title once more, they should get a versatile defender.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher: “People always think about Liverpool and how they play pressing from the front but for a long time they have dominated a lot of the ball.
“They’re not quite as good as Manchester City on the ball so there are more turnovers when they loses the ball and opponents seem to find space to attack and get behind Liverpool.

“Liverpool are not ready to win the league. Jurgen Klopp and supporters know that right now. They want to get back in the top four but challenging again, they need another midfield player and a top-class defender.”
