After learning that Moises Caicedo had turned down Liverpool in favor of Chelsea, Jamie Carragher quickly revised his assessment of the midfielder’s £110 million transfer fee.
The rumors that the Reds had reached a club-record agreement to sign the 21-year-old from Brighton were confirmed by Jurgen Klopp on Friday.
In their pursuit of Caicedo, the Seagulls have turned down a number of Chelsea proposals. The Ecuador international has recently tried to force the move to west London.
According to the Evening Standard, other rumors have since surfaced claiming that the 21-year-old has rejected Liverpool in favor of joining the Blues. As they prepare a new proposal to persuade the south coast club to sell.
In the midst of the chaos, Anfield legend Carragher gave his opinion on Caicedo arriving on Merseyside. He called it “great business” as part of the acquisition of Alexis MacAllister and the sale of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.
He tweeted: “£110M is a big price for Caicedo. But Liverpool had to pay big as clubs knew they were desperate.
“But signing two top young players for £145M and selling two of your older players for £52M is great business!”
Only a few hours later, when news of Caicedo choosing Stamford Bridge broke, Sky Sports analyst Carragher abruptly changed his tune and attacked co-owner Todd Boehly. Probably in an effort to rile up Chelsea supporters ahead of the two teams’ Premier League showdown on Sunday.

He claimed: “£110M is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for a 21-year-old. Boehly has lost his mind yet again.”
There may be many more turns in this affair because Chelsea and Brighton still haven’t agreed on the fee by Friday lunchtime.
