Mexican legend Rafa Marquez has been named the new head coach of Barcelona B. The club announced Marquez’s appointment on Thursday, with the former defender signing a two-year contract that would see him manage the reserves until 2024.
Marquez lasted seven seasons at Camp Nou, playing for the club between 2003 and 2010, and became an international superstar with El Tri.

Marquez’s History At Barcelona
Marquez first joined Barcelona from Monaco in 2003, becoming the club’s first Mexican international.
During his time at Barcelona, he won La Liga four times and helped the club win the Champions League twice.
The Mexican legend played for the team for 242 times before moving on to the New York Red Bulls in 2010. He then played for Atlas, Leon, and Hellas Verona before calling it quits in April 2018.
Since retiring, he has served as Atlas’ sporting president and coached at the youth level at Acala.
The first training session will take place the day following his first day of work at Barcelona, which is Friday when the players are expected back for their medicals.
