Manager Eddie Howe is delighted goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has opted to pledge his future to Bournemouth by signing a new long-term contract. Ramsdale, 21, has been on the Cherries’ books since moving from Sheffield United in 2017 but has been biding his time, with loan spells at Chesterfield and AFC Wimbledon.
The youngest impressed during his loan stints and returned to the Vitality Stadium during the summer to claim the Bournemouth number one shirt for 2019-2020.
Capped five time by England’s Under-21s, Ramsdale has started all nine of Bournemouth’s Premier League matches this season, conceding 13 Premier League goals to date and keeping a clean sheet in Saturday’s goalless draw with Norwich.
He looks set for a stellar career with the south-coast club and is happy to reap the rewards of all his effort. “I’ve put in a lot of hard work on and off the pitch to get to this position,” he told the club’s official website.
With players costing so much these days, it is a bonus for a club to unearth a gem that they paid in the region of £1m for.
Howe had no hesitation in giving the youngster the responsibility of operating between the posts in arguably one of the toughest league’s in world football.
The boss feels that Ramsdale’s loan spells helped him develop so quickly and was glad to get him on board for the foreseeable future. “He has matured a lot over the last year or so and has taken superbly to the challenge of playing every week,” he said. “Aaron is a very talented goalkeeper who is at an important stage of his career and his development, and I’m delighted that he has pledged his future to us.”
Bournemouth are next in action away to Watford on Saturday and will looking for their first win since beating Southampton on September 20.
