Ramsey set to start Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Liverpool

Aaron Ramsey is reportedly set to start Arsenal’s opening Premier League game against Liverpool next weekend, after returning to training on Thursday.

Ramsey joined up with the squad this week following his extended summer break, as he played a key role in helping Wales reach the Euro 2016 semi- finals in France.

The midfielder was excellent throughout, and Arsenal fans will be hoping that he can carry that form into the season.

The Gunners head to Norway for their final pre-season tour, with Ramsey set to travel, despite his lack of training.

With Mesut Ozil not due back until Monday, Ramsey seems all but assured of starting the Liverpool clash at the Emirates next week, according to the Daily Mail.

The report also cites fitness concerns surrounding Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla as an explanation for the 25-year-old being rushed back to action so soon.

It’s been a frustrating summer for Arsene Wenger thus far, despite making a promising start with the capture of Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Since then, the club have been knocked back in their pursuit of a striker, making just two more signings in Takuma Asano and Rob Holding.

Following their disappointing collapse at the turn of the year, winning just eight Premier League games in that time, fans have become even more exasperated with their current position, with their rivals all spending big money to strengthen their respective squads.

As for Ramsey’s exploits last season, he scored five goals and created 37 chances in 31 Premier League appearances, with Wenger using him both in the centre of midfield and on the right flank.

He helped the Gunners to a second-place finish on 71 points, 10 adrift of champions Leicester City at the summit and one ahead of arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in third.

Following the curtain-raiser against Liverpool, Arsenal then travel to the King Power Stadium to take on Leicester, before a trip to Watford.
