Leicester City have announced that Claudio Ranieri has been awarded the Premier League Manager of the Month award for March.
Ranieri steered his troops closer to achieving the impossible last month with a draw and three consecutive victories, all by a 1-0 scoreline, to open up a seven-point advantage at the top of the table over Tottenham Hotspur.
That draw came at home to West Brom as many thought they may finally falter but Ranieri turned them onto the right course, leading the Foxes to three straight 1-0 wins for the remainder of the month.
Those victories came against Watford, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace and they were the definition of a ‘champion’s performance’, grinding out results and keeping clean sheets in the process.
Leicester averaged 52% possession throughout March while they also averaged 54 defensive actions per game, the fourth-most in the top flight.
Ranieri deserves huge credit for the job he’s done this season with Leicester and March proved just how well-drilled his side are and how versed they are at turning around and improving after a disappointing result.
The Italian beat Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe, Swansea City’s Francesco Guidolin and West Ham United’s Slaven Bilic to the award.
