Claudio Ranieri’s achievement of leading Leicester City to the Premier League title last season will be spoken about 50 years from now, Pep Guardiola has stated.
Less than a year after that remarkable success, the Italian tactician was relieved of his duties as Foxes manager in a decision that sparked a huge debate among many footballing figures as the likes of Jürgen Klopp, Jose Mourinho and Thierry Henry all expressed a displeasure at the decision.
The same can now be said of Guardiola as he addressed the media ahead of his side’s FA Cup fifth round replay clash against Huddersfield Town tomorrow night and admitted he was taken aback by the sudden departure of Ranieri.
“I was surprised,” the Spaniard said.
“In 50 years people will talk about what Leicester achieved. That is his legacy.”
One of Leicester’s best results in the Premier League under Ranieri this season was a 4-2 victory over the Citizens back in December. They produced a similar performance last night to record a victory over Liverpool in the club’s first game since his sacking.
