The on-loan Manchester United player made his Villa debut in Europe’s top club competition as Unai Emery’s team defeated Bruges 3-1 in the first leg of their round of 16 match.
November 2023 was his most recent Champions League appearance for the Red Devils.
Villa seemed destined to advance to the quarterfinals with the second leg of the match at Villa Park next week, but Rashford is adamant that they still have work to do on home soil, reports Birmingham Live.
Posting on Instagram after the final whistle in Bruges, he said: “Champions League Nights. We’re at the halfway stage! See you next week.” The post also included a picture of Villa’s starting XI in Bruges.
Even though Villa had a definite lead going into the second leg, Emery felt that the job was not done.
He declared, “We are not in the quarter-final.”
“There are still ninety minutes left, and since I am aware of how challenging each game is and how we can alter a match in ninety minutes, we are prepared in case we require extra time and penalties.
