Real duo Benzema and Rodrygo win Zidane’s praise

Boss Zinedine Zidane singled out Karim Benzema and Rodrygo for special praise after Real Madrid’s 6-0 Champions League win against Galatasaray. Los Blancos moved a big step closer to the knockout stages with their second win in four matches in Group A at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
Rodrygo was the star of the show as the 18-year-old former Santos striker scored twice within the opening seven minutes and completed his hat-trick in stoppage time.
However, former France international Benzema also chipped in with two of the goals as he became only the third player after Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to score in 15 consecutive seasons in the Champions League.
Speaking about his fellow compatriot after the game, Zidane praised the way that Benzema has become a key man since Ronaldo departed for Juventus in summer 2018.
He said: “We know all about his quality, and his important role in the team. Nothing has really changed after Cristiano left, as Benzema has matured.” “He has taken on a leadership role this season, and his off field changes. including becoming a father, have been reflected in his form.”
On Rodrygo, Zidane praised the way he also helps out defensively in addition to his attacking qualities, but he is keen not to heap too much pressure on the teenager’s shoulders.
Captain Sergio Ramos scored Real Madrid’s other goal from the penalty spot as the side moved on to seven points from four games and sit in second place behind Paris Saint-Germain who boast a 100 per cent record.
