According to Spanish media, Real Madrid and Barcelona’s Champions League berths are now jeopardized due to the Luis Rubiales affair.
On Monday, the Spanish FA urged European governing body UEFA to consider expulsion due to the Spanish government’s intervention in the ongoing World Cup ‘kiss-gate’ saga, in which £214,000-a-year official Rubiales kissed Spain star Jennifer Hermoso on the lips without her consent.
If this request is granted, all Spanish clubs, including global giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, will be barred from participating in UEFA competitions such as the Champions League (which also affects Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad), the Europa League (Villarreal and Real Betis), and the Europa Conference League (Osasuna).

Their places in Europe are now under threat as a result of comments from Spanish FA chief Andreu Camps criticizing the Spanish government for interfering in the scandal involving president Rubiales after he kissed Hermoso and grabbed his crotch in the royal box alongside Queen Letizia and her 16-year-old daughter Infanta Sofia.
According to Onda Cero, Rubiales’ supporters in the Spanish FA (RFEF) have organized to criticize the government for demanding for Rubiales’ resignation.
line with UEFA guidelines, its members must “manage their affairs independently and without undue influence from third parties.”
‘Any body or decision of a body that has not been elected or appointed in line with stated procedure, even provisionally, shall not be recognized by UEFA,’ says the governing body.
Onda Cero’s sources claim the reason UEFA have not yet spoken out on the scandal is because their president Aleksander Ceferin is personal friends with Rubiales.
RFEF’s interim president Pedro Rocha must now decide whether to maintain the threat from general secretary Camps, a long-term ally of Rubiales.
