Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger has stated that he underwent successful knee surgery and hopes to return to duty this season.
Rudiger was expected to miss Real Madrid’s final five LaLiga matches after receiving a six-game ban from the Spanish FA for being sent off in Saturday’s Copa del Rey final defeat to Barcelona.
After being substituted, the German reacted angrily to a foul called on Kylian Mbappe in extra time and was sent off for throwing an ice cube at referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea.
Rudiger did express an apology for his attitude towards the aforementioned official, despite his ban was issued on the same day he went an operation.
Rudiger revealed the extent of his knee issues in a post on his Instagram and X accounts: “After playing for more than seven months in severe pain, it was unfortunately unavoidable that I had to undergo meniscus surgery,” he wrote.
