In a move to preserve the club’s reputation, Real Madrid legal department will thoroughly examine Gerard Pique’s comments in which he claimed Los Blancos president Florentino Perez uses his powerful position to obtain diverse favours.
The counselling team must evaluate whether they should let the Catalan defender’s words slide or whether they should pursue legal action.
It did not take long for Sergio Ramos to issue a response to Pique, with whom the relationship was supposedly better than ever before.
The sudden attack came as a surprise within the Madrid organisation, where they believe the Barcelona centre-back has crossed a red line, totally lacking respect for a rival institution.
On the contrary, respect and cordiality dominated the scene whenever Perez and Pique had previously met, including at El Paraguas restaurant in Madrid.
The sentence claiming Los Blancos exert major influence from the presidential box is the one being highlighted by the legal department.
“What I dislike about Madrid is how they pull the strings from the presidential boxes; [Lionel] Messi and Neymar had to endure serious accusations…whereas Cristiano [Ronaldo] had his dropped. It’s always been this way,” Pique said after Spain defeated France 2-0.
