Real Madrid Could Make A Major Change Ahead Of Liverpool Showdown

Real Madrid are currently battling with injury crisis at the backline and could be forced to deploy Federico Valverde in the position when they clash with Liverpool at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

The starting right-back Dani Carvajal is currently out of the encounter after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in October. Following surgery, the 34-year-old is anticipated to be sidelined for approximately eight months.

In Carvajal’s absence, Lucas Vazquez has filled in, but he is doubtful for the trip to Anfield due to an injury sustained against Osasuna. Consequently, Valverde featured at right-back for Madrid for the fifth time, filling in against Leganes.

It’s interesting to note that he did so for the first time in a 2021 Champions League quarterfinal matchup at Anfield against Liverpool.

In addition to helping Madrid maintain a clean sheet that day, Valverde claims he is “prepared” to repeat the feat on Wednesday.

I really enjoyed the position today,” Valverde said after Madrid’s 3-0 win over Leganes as echoed by The Mirror. “I am available for whatever the coach wants, and whatever the team needs.

“Obviously, I am not even close to them but I try to give my best in that position and I try to help the team. During Covid-19 I played at full-back against Liverpool and I was nervous, I think it will be more difficult this time, but I’m prepared.”

Though, Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti is sure that Valverde can handle the Reds’ attack, however, he is uncertain if Vazquez will be able to play against Liverpool.
