Real Madrid Handed Major Injury Blow Following Atletico Victory

Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly revealed that Ferland Mendy “felt a twinge in his leg” against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.

With 30 appearances in all competitions this season, including 11 in the Champions League, the 29-year-old has once again been a key member of Los Blancos. However, depending on the extent of the injury, he might not be able to play against Arsenal in the quarterfinals.

Mendy was substituted in the closing minutes of regular time due to a muscular injury he sustained in the Madrid derby, and according to Sports Mole, Ancelotti stated that he will need to be evaluated.

“I think it’s a muscle issue because he felt a twinge in his leg. They’ll assess him in the next few days,” Ancelotti told reporters.

After 120 minutes, the two teams were unable to be separated, and Atletico’s 1-0 triumph that evening necessitated penalties because the final score was 2-2.

Real Madrid won 4-2 in the penalty shootout, and Ancelotti has given his team credit for overcoming a difficult match.

“It was a difficult game, and even more so when you concede inside a minute. After that they dropped in to defend and looked to catch us out on the counter.

The priority was to have effective possession of the ball and not complicate the game again. It was an evenly-matched tie and Atlético are one of the best in the world defensively,” said the manager.
