Thibaut Courtois has reportedly been included in the Real Madrid squad to face Arsenal in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter final on Tuesday.
Due to an injury, Courtois has missed the last three Real Madrid games. According to Spanish media, he has been suffering from calf pain brought on by a cyst in the back of his knee.
Andriy Lunin has filled in for the Belgian, however, the Ukrainian also missed Saturday’s loss to Valencia because of a leg injury.
Los Blancos fell 2-1 against Valencia after being forced to start 19-year-old Fran Gonzalez in goal.
According to The Evening Standard, Courtois has been included in Madrid’s squad for Monday morning’s trip to London, but Lunin won’t be ready to play against Arsenal. Courtois participated in Madrid’s Sunday training session in Spain.
However, Aurelien Tchouameni, who is suspended for Tuesday’s first leg of the quarterfinal match against the Gunners, is one of several first-team players that manager Carlo Ancleotti is without.
Due to knee problems, Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao have been sidelined since the end of last year and are still not present. Ferland Mendy and Dani Ceballos have also been left out of the squad for the trip to Arsenal as a result of the same issue.
Prior to spending a portion of the training session with the rest of the group, Ceballos, who was on loan at Arsenal for two seasons between 2019 and 2021, trained indoors on Sunday.
