Real Madrid Held Internal Talks About Signing Former Manchester City Star

Since missing out on the signing of Leny Yoro, Real Madrid has been considering their possibilities for strengthening the centre-back position this summer.

One of the names that appears to be making the rounds is Aymeric Laporte, who plies his trade at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

The 30-year-old was part of Spain’s winning squad at the UEFA Euro 2024 earlier this month and appears to have attracted the Merengues’ interest.

Internal talks over Laporte

Indeed, according to The Athletic, Real Madrid has already held internal discussions about signing Aymeric Laporte from Al Nassr, however they believe the move will be complicated.

The former Manchester City defender could be open to returning to Europe, where he hopes to be a member of Spain’s FIFA World Cup squad in 2026.

According to sources at the Saudi Arabian club, they have had no touch with Real Madrid about Laporte at this time.

Furthermore, even if reaching an agreement between the two teams is not an issue, the defender’s salary – roughly €20 million per year – might be a stumbling block, as Real Madrid would be hesitant to fulfill those amounts.

According to the report, Laporte was tempted to quit Al Nassr not long ago and considered joining a team such as Real Madrid.

But, in the end, finances may be an issue, as Los Blancos do not aim to change their compensation structure for any player.
