Real Madrid have reportedly identified three defenders to bolster their injury-ridden backline when the January transfer window opens.
The Spanish giants are believed to be actively seeking to boost their defense during the upcoming winter window. In the wake of Eder Militao’s injury, the team is concentrating on acquiring a seasoned center-back.
The club have now identified three possible candidates to strengthen their defensive line, according to AS as reported by Madrid Universal. Castello Lukeba, Aymeric Laporte, and Jonathan Tah have all surfaced as possible options. Though, it was revealed that Real Madrid’s preference is Laporte.
Militao’s injury has brought attention to how urgently a center-back is needed. The team is now willing to negotiate the signing of a player in this position.
Madrid have made it clear that they have no plans to bring back Sergio Ramos and are not searching for a short-term solution as the winter transfer window draws near.
Rather, the club is committed to finding a long-term answer, someone who can help right away and also offer potential in the future.
The report claims that on Sunday afternoon, the club deliberated about the potential of signing a free agent to address the immediate issue before deciding to sign a defender.

None of the free agents that are available, though, were seen to be up to par for a team like Real Madrid.
Because of this, all attention is now in January, where the UEFA Champions League winners prepare to spend a lot of money to acquire a center-back who can fit right away.
