Predrag Mijatovic, Real Madrid star, criticized Carlo Ancelotti’s modern-day team for playing “rock and roll” football and having “too much muscle and toughness with the ball”.
Los Blancos’ 36-game unbeaten streak came to an end on Wednesday night at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, as they lost 1-0 to Lille in the Champions League.
Reacting to the setback on Spanish radio station Cadena SER, the ever-outspoken scorer of the winner in a 1998 competition final against Juventus noted that while “the team is not bad defensively and Lille didn’t play a scandalous game either,” he believes Madrid “have to improve many things.”
The Montenegrin was asked if he was persuaded by “this Real Madrid rock and roll [football] with a midfield like that against Lille, with Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Fede Valverde, and Jude Bellingham?”

“Honestly, I’m not convinced by this midfield,” he replied. “I believe the problem versus Lille was the midfield. It’s a midfield that is overly physical and lacking in imagination.”
“I’ve missed Luka Modric a lot, and Toni Kroos is not there,” Mijatovic continued.
“I believe Tchouameni, Camavinga, and Valverde have too much muscle and toughness on the ball. “I don’t think it’s the right midfield for this Real Madrid game.”
Despite previously criticising the Brazilian’s attitude, Mijatovic defended Vinicius Jr.
“You mentioned Vinicius’ bad performance, but his style of play is heavily influenced by the balls that come his way. And against Lille, we didn’t have the creative midfield that could provide him with useful balls to play his game,” Mijatovic explained.
