Madrid has struggled at the defense, having not signed a central defender since 2022, as well as losing former club captain Nacho and suffering serious injuries to David Alaba and Eder Militao .
Castello Lukeba, an emerging defensive star valued at €90 million due to a release clause in his RB Leipzig contract, has been suggested as an alternative.
In the near term, Madrid is also said to be keeping an eye on experienced Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, who wil be out of contract in June.
Branthwaite is another possibility for Madrid, reports 90 min.
According to AS, the capital club will sign a centre-back despite Raul Asencio’s impressive progress to the first team, with 22-year-old Branthwaite being touted as a “favourite” of Carlo Ancelotti in particular.
However, Everton’s current asking price of €75 million (£62 million) is regarded too high.
Toffees boss David Moyes recently cautioned suitors that they would need “a big bag of money” to capture Branthwaite, who remains on Manchester United’s radar after two failed bids this summer.
