Real Madrid Lose Another Defender To New Injury

Real Madrid have announced that David Alaba has been sidelined with a new injury just weeks after making his comeback following more than a year off.

“Following tests carried out on our player David Alaba by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the adductor muscle of his left leg. Pending development,” the club statement read.

Days prior to Alaba’s injury, Madrid lost Antonio Rudiger to an injury sustained during their match against Espanyol this past weekend.

Alaba, 32, only made his comeback in January, featuring in four games across all competitions after missing more than a year due to an ACL injury.

The seasoned defender was supposed to start against Leganes in the Copa del Rey match, but that is no longer feasible.

Journalist Jose Luis Sanchez has reported that the center-back will miss two to three weeks of action, which is a serious setback for Los Blancos.

Alaba is essentially ruled out of the La Liga rivalry clash against Atletico Madrid and the UCL quarterfinal playoff matchup against Manchester City.

Due to the Austrian’s injury, Carlo Ancelotti’s only center-back choices are Raul Asencio and Jesus Vallejo, who is now out of favor, with Aurelien Tchouameni, who is a makeshift defender.

Due to the injury problem, Ancelotti may be forced to use academy players like Diego Aguado and Jacobo Ramon more in the upcoming games. Ferland Mendy may also be used as a temporary center-back.
