Real Madrid Castilla’s Jeremy de Leon has been given a huge setback, as his season has been cut short owing to recurrent shoulder problems that now require surgery on both shoulders.
According to SPORT, the young Puerto Rican winger will be out for a prolonged length of time while undergoing medical operations to address these recurring concerns.
De Leon’s name rose to notoriety during the last year, not only because of his on-field performances, but because of his unexpected role as a “lucky charm” for Real Madrid’s first squad.
And why is that?
Despite not being registered for the Champions League, Carlo Ancelotti selected him in numerous important matchday teams during Real Madrid’s successful European campaign.
He was present for crucial matches against Manchester City in the quarterfinals, Bayern Munich in the semifinals, and Borussia Dortmund in the final at Wembley Stadium.
Despite not playing a single minute in the competition, he participated in the festivities, including lifting the Champions League trophy with his teammates.
However, because he was not formally recorded, the title is not included in his honours.
Despite these great occasions, De Leon’s tenure at Real Madrid Castilla has been far from perfect. He joined the club from Castellon in January 2024, but has struggled with injuries ever since.
His shoulder difficulties have significantly curtailed his playing time, with only 12 appearances for Castilla. Hopes of making his first-team debut were also shattered due to his reoccurring fitness issues.
Now, the 21-year-old must endure a lengthy rehabilitation period following surgery. With the current season completed, his attention will be totally on recovery, with the goal of regaining full fitness and returning to the highest level of competition.
