Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has decided head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s future after a harrowing 5-2 defeat to bitter rivals Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday.
When Kylian Mbappe wrong-footed Alejandro Balde and put a shot past Wojciech Szczesny within five minutes, Los Blancos appeared to be headed for a third trophy this season, having already won the UEFA Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup.
But due to the brilliance of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, Madrid were down 4-1 at the half and ended up losing the match by a score of 5-2. They have now lost the Super Cup title they won against Barcelona the previous year.
Some Madrid fans, who appear to have short memory and have forgotten all that Ancelotti has accomplished in the past year, including a double that was sealed in 2023–2024 and included a record 15th Champions League title, have called for the Italian to be fired after the match.
