Real Madrid and Manchester United are two of the richest and most powerful clubs in the world and before they played their friendly on Sunday, Florentino Perez and Ed Woodward warmly greeted each other.
The result was not the most important thing on the minds of the two leaders either. A deal for Alvaro Morata was very close to materialising with only five million euros separating the two clubs valuation of the player.
Given his debut by Jose Mourinho, the striker wanted to go to Old Trafford but in the end, because of the impasse, they ended up performing a 180 degree turn and signed Romelu Lukaku, Morata going to Chelsea in place of the Belgian.
It echoed the failure of the David De Gea deal.
In any event, the meeting was face to face and, as reflected in the image above, Florentino gave Woodward a shirt signed by the Real Madrid stars, the English club doing the same with a silver plaque commemorating the game.
Their relationship, of course, isn’t going through the best moment but both leaders are all set for the August 8 date in Macedonia when the European Super Cup is at stake.
