Real Madrid Not Ready To Offer Long Term Contract To Defender

The Real Madrid board opposes giving Ferland Mendy, a new, long-term deal with higher pay.

One of Real Madrid’s most important players throughout their dominant run through La Liga, the UEFA Champions League and the Spanish Super Cup last season was Ferland Mendy.

The French international has received frequent accolades from Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, who has called him the best defensive full-back in the world.

But the Frenchman’s future at the club is far from assured going into the summer.

The contract of the former Olympique Lyon full-back expires next year, reports Madrid Universal.

Although he has turned down offers of extension in the past, he is reportedly amenable to a long-term extension with a pay increase.

But Mendy’s future is still uncertain because the club administration is against making such a change.

According to earlier rumors, PSG and a few Premier League teams are showing interest in signing Mendy.

Therefore, if a good offer materializes, Real Madrid may wind up making money off of him.

As things stand, there won’t be any big changes until the Frenchman returns from the UEFA Euro 2024, according to insiders close to his camp.
