Real Madrid have reportedly shelved out any plan to sign Mats Hummels as a free agent this summer.
Reports were previously making the rounds that Los Blancos are considering making a move for the 35-year-old, who left Borussia Dortmund as a free agent upon the expiration of his contract. This came after Madrid failed to table a bid for Leny Yoro, who recently joined Manchester United from LOSC Lille for a reported fee of £59 million.
According to AS as reported by Madrid Universal, Hummels, 35, is simply not a possibility for the defending UEFA Champions League and Laliga champions. The report also stated that the ex-Germany international is not even being considered for a Real Madrid signing.
The last season’s Champions League finalist may have been enticed to play for Madrid, according to the source, but the team have no interest in signing him.
Hummels’ abilities are undeniable; he led Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League finals the previous season with outstanding performances. In addition, the 35-year-old would join the club without a fee.
Real Madrid, however, ruled out making a move for the former Dortmund star since he does not meet their criteria for a player.
Though they lost out on signing Yoro, the Merengues are completely composed in the face of the circumstances.

The Spanish outfit are searching for potential defense reinforcements. But they won’t make any hasty decisions and won’t consider making a signing until the right moment arises.
In addition to Hummels, Aymeric Laporte and Piero Hincapie have also been touted as potential signings for Real Madrid. It remains to be seen if they decide to add someone or keep with their current squad.
