Real Madrid defender, Raul Asencio was visibly emotional after receiving a standing ovation from the fans following the club’s 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao.
When he was replaced in the 83rd minute, the home crowd gave the Real Madrid academy graduate a standing ovation for his confident and mature performance in the center of defense during the victory over Athletic Club.
By shielding the team against an aggressive and physically demanding Athletic attack, the young center-back was instrumental in helping the side maintain a clean sheet.
According to Madrid Universal, Asencio, who was clearly distraught but rooted in his commitment to the team, shared his comments with Real Madrid TV after the game.

“We’re very happy. It was an important game and it was tough. The team worked together and we deserved the win,” he began saying.
“The win gives us confidence, and we needed it. It will help us and give us that extra boost to keep working. Hopefully, from now on, it will be nothing but wins.”
When asked about the roaring cheers he got from the Madrid supporters, Asencio was unable to contain his appreciation.
“It is incredibly motivating every time I play here, and to receive an ovation like that is indescribable. Hopefully, there will be more. I will give everything for the club and my teammates.”
