Real Madrid Starlet Unhappy With His Status At The Club As Contract Talks Loom

Real Madrid broke a more than a decade-old agreement when they moved to sign right-back Jesus Fortea from the Atletico Madrid academy at the age of 15. Following several conflicts, the two Madrid clubs agreed not to sign each other’s academy players. Nonetheless, Los Blancos thought Fortea, who was touted to be a generational right-back in Spanish football, was worth the controversy.

More than two years later, Real Madrid is dealing with an injury crisis at right back, but the 17-year-old has yet to be called up to the first squad. Fortea trained with the first team after Dani Carvajal suffered a cruciate ligament injury, but after two weeks, Carlo Ancelotti and his staff concluded that he would be best served by returning to the under-19s side, where he occasionally plays for Real Madrid C. According to The Athletic, Ancelotti and his staff were taken aback by speculations that he would remain with the senior squad.

Fortea was scheduled to spend more time with Real Madrid Castilla this season than the club but due to injuries and Raul Gonzalez’s preferences, he has not played under him. Despite his obvious offensive prowess, his defensive talents are called into question. The youthful starlet is a Real Madrid fan, and the club is eager to keep him, but with contract negotiations looming, there will undoubtedly be some difficult chats.

According to the same site, Fortea is dissatisfied with both his role and his camp. Any deal to lure him away from the club would have to be appealing and include promises about the player’s growth, as Real Madrid would only sell him for a 50% sell-on fee.
