Premier League side Aston Villa are reportedly close to signing Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old forward’s contract with Real Madrid looked to be renewed not long ago, and he was expected to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu as he was valued by the club and by his manager, Carlo Ancelotti.
However, Asensio appears to have opted to leave the club at the conclusion of his contract as he is unhappy with his role in the team.
The Spanish international was reportedly in negotiations with PSG, while AC Milan and Arsenal were also heavily linked.
However, it appears like Aston Villa will be the team to sign Asensio for the upcoming season.
According to the report, the Villans’ manager, Unai Emery, is directly communicating with the Real Madrid attacker to persuade him that he will play a crucial part in the club’s project.

Aston Villa finished seventh in the Premier League after Emery took over the team’s management, securing them a position in the UEFA Europa Conference League for next season. And in order to advance the team to the next level, he now wants to sign Asensio to his squad.
For his part, Asensio hasn’t made a definitive choice yet. The winger will thoroughly consider all of his options before deciding what to do next.
However, given the circumstances, an exit from Real Madrid appears to be on the horizon and Aston Villa seem to be the frontrunners to secure his signing.
