Following a request from the Premier League for the officiating board to look into the VAR events at Chelsea and Newcastle on Saturday, the referees’ body PGMOL has accepted that they were errors.
A number of judgments that were either reversed by the use of VAR or were not made despite the presence of the review system marred Saturday’s Premier League action. This in turn infuriated managers of several clubs who were unable to contain their anger after the game.

Other flashpoints have occurred during the season’s opening weeks. Last month, Mike Dean, who was on VAR duty at the time, made a bad decision that cost Chelsea the match.
Dean later acknowledged that he should have recommended a red card for Spurs defender Cristian Romero when he tugged Marc Cucurella’s hair during a corner.
What Does The Premier League Panel Do?
The PGMOL thinks mistakes were committed in the situations that prevented goals for West Ham and Newcastle after the Premier League requested a review into the circumstances behind significant decisions at Stamford Bridge and St James’ Park.
Weekly reviews of key match incidents from each Premier League game are conducted by a newly established independent panel. The practice began this season.

The panel consists of three former players as well as a PGMOL and Premier League representative.
Results are then communicated to clubs for transparency.
The VAR controversies this weekend have left the Premier League unimpressed, and they will express their concerns at the review this week.
