Barcelona have made Philippe Coutinho their priority for next summer’s transfer window, according to Spanish newspaper SPORT.
The midfielder’s close relationship with Neymar, who he plays alongside for Brazil, is said to be a reason behind the potential move.
SPORT have also highlighted the fact that Coutinho would fit into Luis Enrique’s system, and believe he possesses ‘Barcelona DNA’.
Barcelona have a habit of signing Liverpool’s crown jewels. They snapped up Luis Suarez in the summer of 2014 after a sublime season under then manager Brendan Rodgers.
Coutinho has attracted attention after a sensational start to the new Premier League season.
The diminutive midfielder has played a key role as Liverpool have climbed to the top of the table.
He has scored five goals in 11 appearances in the Premier League for Jurgen Klopp’s high-flying side.
And he continued that excellent form for his nation on Thursday night. He linked play well as Brazil put Argentina to the sword, winning 3-0. The former Inter Milan man also hit a stunning strike from range to kick off the demolition.
Coutinho moved to Anfield from Inter in 2013 for just £8.5million.
The 24-year-old and Liverpool take on Southampton away from home following the international break as they attempt to continue a run of four straight victories in the league.
