Antoine Griezmann is extremely keen on a move to Manchester United this summer, in what could be yet another world record-breaking transfer.
As reported by the Independent, United are increasingly confident of securing Griezmann’s services from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window, with representatives from both parties engaging in talks for the last several months.
The newspaper reports that the principles of a prospective deal have been verbally agreed, including his wages and potential shirt number at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, the report also says Griezmann is also extremely keen to link-up with international teammate Paul Pogba, who arrived at the club last summer for a world record transfer fee from Juventus.
However, United could surpass that fee if they sign the 25-year-old, with his buy-out clause at the Vicente Calderon standing at €100 million, the report claims. This comes after his stunning performances for Atletico in recent seasons, while he also starred for France at Euro 2016, ending as the tournament’s top scorer.
The potential deal could face a further complication though, as Atletico are currently serving a transfer ban, but they’re still waiting for the Court of Arbitration for Sport to decide if they can buy or sell players this summer, according to the paper.
Griezmann has scored seven goals and created 27 chances in 17 La Liga appearances this season, with a shot accuracy of 59%, as Atletico sit fourth on 34 points, four behind Barcelona in third. Meanwhile in the Champions League, the no.7 star has scored three goals in six games.
