Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Manchester United career is all but over after the forward reportedly rejected a new £13m-a-year deal to stay at Old Trafford.
The Swede, 35, is expected to be sidelined for up to a year after sustaining ‘significant’ damage to his knee ligaments in United’s win against Anderlecht last week.
United were keen to tie Ibrahimovic down to a new one-year deal and, according to the Sun, the club did not withdraw their offer after discovering the extent of the Swede’s injury.
Ibrahimovic, though, has turned down the £250,000-a-week deal because he doesn’t believe he deserves the money while he’s on the long road back in recovery.
Mourinho admitted this week that Ibrahimovic’s injury has altered his plans for this summer’s transfer window.
United were interested in signing one forward to compliment the Swede but Mourinho could now sign two as the club face up to the reality of the veteran having played his last game for the club.
Antoine Griezmann, Romelu Lukaku and Andrea Belotti are all on Mourinho’s radar.
