REPORT: James would prefer Chelsea move after Madrid tell him he can leave

James Rodriguez would reportedly prefer a move to Chelsea after being told that he is free to leave Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old has struggled to establish himself under Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane and has made just eight appearances in La Liga this season.

The Colombian star was criticised by club captain Sergio Ramos after Real’s recent Club World Cup triumph for saying: “I can’t assure I will stay at Real Madrid. I have offers and seven days left to think about my future.

“I am happy in Madrid, but I want to play more. I have a bitter feeling as I wanted to play the final, but I am happy for the title. It’s my 15th title in my career.”

According to the Daily Mail, Rodriguez’s agent Jorge Mendes – who also represents Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho – is currently arranging a transfer away from the Bernabeu with Chelsea the preferred destination.

Real Madrid’s stance on their No.10 has been altered after a Court of Arbitration reduced a transfer ban placed on the club by Fifa – meaning they will now be able to register new players as of next summer, rather than in 2018.

Chelsea are enjoying a remarkable run of form under manager Antonio Conte, having won their last 11 consecutive games in the Premier League.

However, many have suggested that the Blues are just a suspension or an injury away from losing their momentum due to the relatively thin squad at Conte’s disposal, meaning arrivals in the transfer market are essential.
