Manchester United are to delay their signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic until next month so the striker can collect a sizeable bonus from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Daily Telegraph report the Swede and his agent, Mino Raiola, are due a loyalty bonus from the Parisian club should he see out his contract, which expires on the 30th June.
The 34-year-old, who has already held positive talks with manager Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, can then join United on a free transfer, with a one-year contract and wages of £250,000-a-week mooted.
At the launch of his new fashion range on Tuesday Ibrahimovic told reporters they would have to remain patient to find out his future.
“There is no confirmation. No saying ‘yes’. You will have to be patient with me,” he said.
“I want you to keep wondering where I will go, keep making stories, and when I am tired I will let you know when my next destination is. My future is A-Z. There will also be A-Z in Manchester.”
Initially the plan was for Ibrahimovic to have his future resolved before Sweden’s opening Euro 2016 game against the Republic of Ireland on Monday, but having spoken to the club he is confident there is no rush.
The Swedish forward has won domestic league titles in the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and France, with England looking set to be his next destination in a successful career.
Despite his age, Ibrahimovic scored 38 goals in 31 Ligue 1 appearances last season to finish as the league’s top scorer and help PSG secure the title for the fourth successive season.
If he does move to United, as looks likely, he will be a major part of helping Mourinho re-establish them as a powerhouse once more after three seasons of stagnation under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.
United finished fourth and fifth under the Dutchman, and despite winning the FA Cup last season, he has sacked, with Mourinho reportedly promised a major transfer budget to bring success to the club.
