clinching his first international title on Sunday evening, Cristiano Ronaldo‘s first words to reporters post-match were: “do I look good?”, to which a cameraman replied: “shiny”.
Ronaldo endured a rollercoaster evening at the Stade de France after he was forced off through injury with just 25 minutes on the clock in arguably the biggest match of his career to date.
A challenge from Dimitri Payet looked to have injured the 31-year-old’s knee and despite initially attempting to play on, Ronaldo was stretchered off in tears as his Euro 2016 campaign came to a sad end.
But despite the individual disappointment, Ronaldo returned to the touchline and urged his side on to victory, which came when substitute Eder struck a thunderous 25-yard drive past the despairing Hugo Lloris in extra-time.
Ronaldo’s tears of heartbreak turned to those of joy after the final whistle as he sunk to the ground overthrown with pure emotion. He finished the tournament with three goals and two assists, ultimately helping Portugal earn redemption for the Euro 2004 final which they lost as the host nation to Greece.
The Real Madrid forward, who scored 35 goals in 36 appearances in La Liga last season, with another 16 coming on the way to Champions League glory, can now add international success to his ever-growing long list of achievements.
Oh, and his hair is still immaculate, too.
