Despite the fact that James Ward-Prowse will probably be playing in the Championship next season, Micah Richards thinks Newcastle or Liverpool should give him another chance to play in the Premier League.
When Southampton were defeated by Fulham 2-0 on Saturday, they were officially demoted from the Premier League. After spending 11 years in the top division, St Mary’s will probably see some changes this summer.
There will be many players that will leave the club. And Ward-Prowse is the most likely one. One of their most marketable assets is the 28-year-old. And a departure from his boyhood club seems imminent.
The midfielder has played his whole career for the Saints. But relegation will probably force a transfer. Newcastle are said to be interested in him and have been waiting to find out how much he will cost.
Given that Southampton’s fate has been decided, they might not have to wait too much longer. Former Manchester City defender, Micah Richards wants to see a transfer from a club like Newcastle.

Richards has offered his opinion on Ward-Prowse’s Southampton future in his Daily Mail column.
“James Ward-Prowse will be low today. I have been in the situation as a captain when your club are relegated and the responsibility you feel is immense.
“He is a saleable asset for Southampton and plenty of clubs will be keen on him,” he wrote.
“He will be a smart buy for someone and it would not be the worst decision in the world if Liverpool, who need a replacement for James Milner, or Newcastle tested the water when the window opens.”
