Richarlison Speaks On Battling With Depression After 2022 World Cup

Richarlison talked about his battle with depression after the 2022 World Cup, claiming that talking about it “saved my life.”

The 26-year-old disclosed that he felt like giving up after the tournament due to mental health issues.

Richarlison, who signed a £60 million contract with Spurs in the summer of 2022, initially discussed his struggles with mental health in an emotional interview earlier this season while representing Brazil on the international stage.

Since then, Richarlison’s team, Tottenham, has backed him up. He has scored 11 goals in an improved season for Spurs, and he believes therapy has been beneficial to him.

In an interview with ESPN Brasil, as reported by Independent, Richarlison discussed his battles with depression, saying that the World Cup’s high was followed by a trying low that might have been worse if he hadn’t asked for assistance.

Richarlison exclaimed, “I’d just played in a World Cup, man, at my peak.” “It’s true that I was at my breaking point. I’m not going to talk about killing myself, but I was depressed and wanted to give up at that point.

Even me, who appeared to have a strong mind. Following the World Cup, everything appeared to come apart.

Whether you agree with me or not, I believe the therapist saved my life. All I could think of was garbage. Even when I searched on Google, all I wanted to see was garbage about death.

“I don’t know what was going through my head, but before I went to training, all I wanted to do was go home and back to my room. I went to tell my dad that I was going to give up as well.
